SALT LAKE CITY — Police in St. George, Utah, say a man pretending to be a food deliveryman has broken into two homes in Ivins, a city about 9 miles northwest of St. George.
The St. George News reports that police began an investigation when an in-home alarm system was tripped Monday afternoon, September 16. That home was in the Kayenta area of Ivins, according to Santa Clara/Ivins Police Sgt. Jaron Studley.
During that investigation, police got a second call from another homeowner. He reported that a man pretending to be a food deliveryman had rung his doorbell. When the owner didn’t answer the door, the newspaper reports the man tried to pick the lock.
It’s likely that the person at the door wasn’t expecting what happened next. The homeowner told police he got a sword and confronted the would-be burglar.
And that’s when the burglar fled the scene.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the search for the suspect along with their K-9 team. Anyone who has information that may help investigators is urged to call 911 or the Santa Clara/Ivins Police Department at 435-652-1122.
