SALT LAKE CITY — The biggest football rivalry in the state of Utah is going to be put on hold for two seasons.

The Utes and Cougars are taking a break so that Utah can go to Florida.

A home and home is being finalized with the Gators for 2022 and 2023. The only wiggle room they claim was the BYU game.

BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said in a press release that there may come a time in the future where BYU needs to ask Utah to make an adjustment.

This agreement means they are going to extend their series. The Utes and Cougars will resume play in 2024 and play each year through 2028.

The teams have had a break in the past; some fans say it may be nice to do it again. Others say this means BYU really needs to win in 2020 or 2021 or both.
