SANDY, Utah — An auto pedestrian crash in a Sandy neighborhood has left a toddler in critical condition.

The crash occurred around 9:10 a.m. at 1853 E. Sego Lilly Drive.

A woman was crossing in a marked crosswalk while pushing two toddlers in a stroller when she was hit by a Subaru Outback.

“The adult female driver was heading eastbound approaching the crosswalk when the accident occurred,” explains Sergeant Jason Nielsen with Sandy Police. “This crosswalk here does have the yellow lights that do flash.”

All three individuals were immediately taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

“Mom and the two toddlers were transferred to Alta View [Hospital],” says Sgt. Nielsen. “From there the youngest of the children was life-flighted to Primary’s [Children Hospital].”

The mom and youngest toddler are in “OK” condition as of Tuesday afternoon, while the youngest toddler was described as being in critical condition.

The ages of the two toddlers are still being determined, but police say they both are somewhere between eighteen-months-old and three-years-old.

The adult female operator of the vehicle has been cooperating with the police.

At this time, crews are still trying to figure out exactly what caused the accident.

“Not sure on speed or if sun was in the eyes or anything,” he explains. “That’s part of the investigation that we’re still looking into.”

A Combined Accident Reconstruction Team (CART) team has been on-scene working to piece together the accident.

Sego Lilly Drive was expected to be closed for several hours as officials investigate the accident.
