The wanted fugitive who was shot by US marshals yesterday at the Layton Hills Mall has died, according to a statement from the Department of Justice.

The justice department says Zackary Aldrige Hall, 28, was being pursued by the US Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Strike Team when they located him at the Layton Hills Mall.

Fearing that he was armed, the marshals waited until he exited the mall before attempting to arrest him, the department said. Then, marshals say Hall refused to comply with their orders and ran to his vehicle where he tried to escape.

He then “began using his vehicle as a weapon and started ramming his vehicle into police vehicles. In order to stop the threat,” the marshals said in a statement, “an officer fired into the car striking Hall.”

The justice department statement then says Hall exited the vehicle, where an officer removed a firearm that Hall had in his possession. He was treated and transported to the hospital where the agency says he succumbed to his injuries.

Hall’s last known residence was in West Jordan, UT, according to the US Marshals Service. They say he was staying in temporary housing in Clearfield.

The justice department says Hall was wanted for aggravated robbery in a case out of Salt Lake City’s 3rd District Court.

The Davis County Critical Incident Protocol Team is handling the investigation.
