SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Homeless resource centers in Salt Lake City are asking the public for donations of warm clothing ahead of the impending cold weather this weekend.
Socks, underwear, thermals, long-johns, beanies, hats, gloves, coats; and the list goes on. These are all the items homeless resource centers need before temperatures drop.
“As we’re moving into the winter months, we always do a special call for donations,” says Catholic Community Services Homeless Services Director Matthew Melville. “We try to hit it at the beginning of fall so that we can be prepared for those winter months. This weekend, things are going to be pretty cold.”
President of Volunteers of America Kathy Bray says donations don’t just help keep people warm. “We want to provide those things to people so that when they are gathering new resources for housing, they can focus on saving their money for deposits and rent.”
For those who don’t have clothing they can part with, these organizations welcome monetary donations. They also appreciate people who are willing to volunteer their time.
