LAYTON, Utah — Crews evacuated a Deseret Industries building in Layton Saturday after a man called police to say his brother accidentally donated dynamite to the thrift store.

Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said dispatchers received the call just before 1 p.m.

“Out of an abundance of caution” the Layton Fire Department evacuated the building, Lyman said.

Bomb-sniffing dogs from both Hill Air Force Base and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints searched the area around the store, 930 West Hillfield Road, Lyman said. The church owns Deseret Industries.

Later, the city of Layton tweeted that the investigation turned up nothing suspicious.

Police say the man who reported his brother “inadvertently” donated dynamite was somehow disconnected during the call. Lyman said police have been unable to reach him since for more information.
