SALT LAKE CITY — A special session is happening Thursday night to discuss a major tax reform plan for Utah.
This new bill is expected to pass, and it will be a sweeping overhaul of the state tax code.
The final proposal was unveiled not even a week ago and approved by committee on Monday. It includes a $160 million tax cut for most individuals and businesses and a reduction in the income tax rate.
But it re-instates the sales tax on food, with rebates. And it adds sales taxes to many new services.
That list of those services changed frequently over the last several months, after hundreds of public comments and hours of public testimony.
