SALT LAKE CITY — The woman that the Utah Highway Patrol suspects of causing a fatal wrong-way accident on I-215 in the Holladay/Cottonwood Heights area of Salt Lake County had been driving the wrong way on the freeway for 3 miles before the crash.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street tells KSL Newsradio that the woman who was killed by the wrong-way driver is in her 20s.  Her identity has not been released.

Street says the woman they believe caused the crash is in her 80s.

Cars were getting by the location of the crash by 4:50 Friday afternoon, but for hours before that the westbound lanes of the freeway were completely closed between 2000 East and 3000 East for much of the afternoon on Friday. Drivers are being diverted at the exit for Highland Drive, or 2000 East.

UHP asks drivers to plan ahead for your evening commute and to avoid the area until at least 4:30 p.m.
