SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg announced two former Utah mayors as the Utah campaign co-chairs. This adds to more than 100 current or former mayors who support or endorse the presidential hopeful, according to Bloomberg’s Twitter page.

Bloomberg announced Ralph Becker, former two-term Salt Lake City mayor, and Peter Corroon, former two-term Salt Lake County mayor and former Utah Democratic Party State Chair, as the two Utah co-chairs for his presidential campaign.

The former mayor of New York City says mayor are “empowered to drive change” and are important to work closely with as president.

“Mayors are empowered to drive change at the local level, and as president, I will work closely with them to reunite and rebuild America,” Bloomberg wrote in a tweet.

“Mayors know how to tackle the tough issues and get things done. That is why Mayor Becker and Mayor Corroon are supporting Mike Bloomberg for president,” said Utah State Director Lauren Littlefield said in a statement. “They both know that Mike is committed to being a leader on issues that Utahns care about like the climate crisis, addressing gun violence in our communities, and providing quality affordable health care to every citizen.”

Becker noted specific policies and standpoints he agrees with Bloomberg on, saying they’re important to reunite the country.

“I’ve long respected Mike’s integrity and vision on so many issues that matter to Utahns,” Becker said in a statement. “His track record on climate action, sensible gun reform, and health care in particular show that he knows how to get things done. He is beholden to no special interests and I believe he would unite our country.”

Corroon agreed, adding there are several benefits to having someone who puts Americans first.

“Mike Bloomberg understands that we need to protect our citizens and promote our businesses. He’s pragmatic and has solutions that will make our lives cleaner, greener, wealthier, and healthier.”
