SALT LAKE CITY —  Amid the coronavirus frenzy sweeping across the globe, shoppers in Utah stocked up on bottled water and toilet paper at Costco last weekend, despite health officials saying they didn’t need to!

Sales of hand sanitizers in the U.S. were up 73% in the four weeks ending Feb. 22 compared with the same period a year ago, according to market research firm Nielsen.

The NBA has told players to avoid high-fiving fans and avoid taking any item for autographs, the league’s latest response in its ongoing monitoring of the coronavirus crisis, according to the Associated Press.

Dave and Debbie talked about the top 10 things you should do to prevent contracting or spreading the disease.

1. Masks only need to be worn by those who are ill and want to prevent spreading illnesses. Healthy people don’t need to wear a mask.

“So if you see a person wearing a mask, run,” said Dave.

2. Get appropriate sleep.

3. Eat nutritiously and drink plenty of fluids.

“This is something I do, and Dave doesn’t do,” Debbie said.

“That’s not true. I drink tons of Diet Coke,” Dave said.

4. Stay physically active.

“No comment,” said Debbie. “I work out every day for an hour, Dave.”

“I don’t do that.”

5. Manage stress.

“I don’t manage it well. Dave manages it very well.”

6. Stay home if you’re ill and avoid close contact with those who are sick.

“Something neither of us do. We will come here with the bubonic plague. We’re not missing our radio shift,” said Dave.

“We need to stop that and need not feel guilty if we’re feeling sick,” Debbie added. “Although, I will berate you if you call in sick.”

7. Wash hands frequently.

Dave admitted that the only time he washes his hands is when he prepares food for other people.

8. Cover your coughs and sneezes.

“You do that, don’t you?” Debbie asked.

“Yes. You should see the inside of my jacket. Super gross,” Dave said. “Sorry too descriptive.”

9. Clean the objects you touch frequently.

“How often do you clean your computer keyboard?” Debbie asked.

“At least once a month.”

“How about your cellphone?”

“How about your car steering wheel?” Debbie asked.

“I do. I actually clean it with hand sanitizer,” Debbie said. “Is that weird?”

“That is a little weird.”

10. Don’t touch your eyes, your nose or your mouth. It spreads germs.

“How many times a day do you touch your eyes?” asked Debbie.

“I still suck my thumb. Is that bad?” Dave said.
