WASHINGTON DC — Utah Senator Mitt Romney (R) proposed immediately sending $1,000 checks to everyone to help people and the economy during the coronavirus restrictions.
He says it would “help ensure families and workers can meet their short-term obligations and increase spending in the economy.”
Romney pointed out that Congress provided similar emergency funds during the 2001 and 2008 recessions.
In addition to that, Romney’s proposals also call for grants to affected small businesses as well as measures to ease financial burdens for students and actions to bolster telehealth services amid the outbreak.
Some estimate that the checks would cost the government $100 billion dollars per month if it had to continue.
“I will be pushing these measures as Senate discussions continue about an additional relief package,” said Romney.
The US House passed that federal aid package on Saturday. It is expected to pass the Senate sometime in the next week. It covers paid sick leave, free testing and family leave provisions.
Utah Representative John Curtis says is a good compromise.
