SALT LAKE CITY — University of Utah Health has issued new guidelines for visitors which the organization says will be in place at all UofU health facilities. This includes hospitals, clinics, and community health centers.
Beginning Thursday, March 26, no entry will be allowed for anyone who is suspected of being infected with COVID-19 coronavirus, or who has received a positive COVID-19 test.
The health care provider has also drastically changed the rules for people who visit U of U hospitals or clinics. Namely, no visitors will be allowed in U of U Health inpatient, outpatient and ancillary facilities. There are a few exceptions, which include patients who are receiving end of life treatment and those who are at a hospital for childbirth.
In other specific instances, U of U Health says that one visitor will be allowed. These include where the family of a patient is believed to provide a calming and critical aspect to the patient’s care, and any patient who is under the age of 18.
The health system says these changes are for the protection of other patients as well as University of Utah Health staff. In a statement, the organization refers to the changes as aggressive and proactive measures which will be in place until further notice.
