UTAH COUNTY– Two Utah County Sherriff’s Office (UCSO) Deputies are self-quarantining after testing positive for coronavirus, the office announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, the office noted both positive tests happened within the last two weeks.
“Sheriff Smith was notified on March 25 that a Deputy with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office has tested positive for COVID-19. Over this past weekend Sheriff Smith was notified that another Deputy also tested positive for COVID-19,” said UCSO.
Those who had close interaction with the Deputies have been notified and are being monitored.
Utah County Health Department officials told Sheriff Smith “they do not believe these Deputies were at work when symptoms began, and therefore they would not have been contagious at that time.”
Health officials told UCSO the risk of the virus spreading based on this situation is low.
Sherrif Smith will continue to communicate with the Utah County Health Department.
