How is the air quality in your home? Believe it or not, it might not be nearly as good as you think. That’s why proper maintenance is so important for your quality of life. Regular heating and cooling maintenance, in addition to installing air purification systems, can help you get rid of allergens and impurities in your home. Breathing clean air isn’t just about good health, it helps us live more comfortably.

Everyone in Salt Lake is hunkering down in their homes to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The quality of the air you breathe matters, and that’s true for both the outdoors and indoors! While an HVAC system may not directly protect you from contracting a virus, it’s going to impact your home. So how can we improve it?

What’s the Cause of Bad Indoor Air Quality?

What causes bad air quality indoors? The Environmental Protection Agency (The EPA) estimates that indoor air can be up to five times more polluted than outdoor air. This can be due to things like fuel-burning appliances, tobacco smoke, poor ventilation, and even cleaning products. But you can control the bad air. And even just getting some much-needed maintenance on your heating and cooling system can make a huge difference.

Poor Indoor Air Quality Can Cause Health Issues?

The air you breathe inside your home is filled with minuscule particles that we can’t see. The Particles can be anything from household dust and bacteria to the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in household products. Breathing in these particles can make your allergies and respiratory conditions worse. And even in people who don’t have allergies or respiratory issues, nose and throat irritation and headaches and fatigue can be common.

The most important part of your HVAC system is the air filter. The filter on a furnace or air conditioner traps all the unhealthy airborne particles you don’t want in your home. The filters need to be replaced every 90 days. Or even 60 if you have pets. Do you remember the last time you changed yours? If not, you may be breathing some pretty bad stuff. If you are even more concerned about the air quality in your home, modern air purifiers are able to seek out and eradicate bacteria and other contaminants.
