Smith’s limiting number of customers in store, closing early Easter Sunday

Kroger stores across the nation including Smith’s will be limiting the number of customers in their stores and closing early on Easter Sunday to provide their employees more time to spend with their families and rest, the company announced Tuesday.

This is one of the many measures the grocer has enforced as retailers around the country continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to the extra time off this weekend, Smith’s announced they will also be limiting the number of customers they will be allowing inside their stores to help ensure that safe social distancing is possible.

“Smith’s introduction of customer capacity limits is one more way we are doing our part to flatten the curve while operating as an essential business, providing our customers with access to fresh, affordable food and products,” said Kenny Kimball, President of Smith’s.

“During this national pandemic, we are committed to adopting preventive measures to help protect the safety and health of our associates, customers and communities.”

One-way aisles

In a release Tuesday, Smith’s said they have begun piloting the use of one-way aisles in select markets in an effort to see if it helps customers and employees maintain proper physical distancing. Smith’s locations have already begun to implement signage and floor decals to encourage customers to “practice spacial awareness.”

Waived prescription delivery fees

Smith’s said they are also temporarily waiving fees for prescription delivery via mail or courier. Customers should check their options and availability with their local pharmacy locations.

Protective masks and gloves

Finally, Smith’s said they have also ordered protective face masks and gloves for their employees.

Smith’s expects those supplies to be available to employees by week’s end.

How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus

COVID-19 coronavirus is transmitted from person to person. It is a virus that is similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:

Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
Don’t touch your face.
Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet)
If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities.)
Get a flu shot.
