SHEPARD CANYON — A grass fire was reported in Shepard Canyon Sunday afternoon, with Farmington Fire Chief Guido Smith reporting the suspected cause is a downed power line on the north hillside.

As of 5:40 p.m., the fire was not a threat to any buildings or residential homes near Shepard Creek.

The fire was reported at 3:24 p.m. Sunday afternoon, with both Farmington and Kaysville fire departments responding. The teams report the grass fire is in a difficult sport, with limited access to the active fire only through ground crews at this time.

About six firefighters from Farmington and Kaysville are working to hike up to the fire, which they estimate to be burning roughly three acres of brush and grass.
