PROVO, Utah — A driver has been booked on charges of automobile homicide after a crash early Sunday morning, leaving his passenger dead on the scene. Victor Alencastro, 21, told police he had been drinking beer and was driving too fast, causing the fatal crash.
Alencastro was driving his 21-year-old passenger down Squaw Peak Road around 4 a.m. Sunday, when he failed to successfully drive a curve in Provo Canyon. Alencastro lost control of the car and rolled off the side of the road, resulting in the automobile crash
The 21-year-old passenger wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car through the sunroof window. He died at the scene.
Alencastro, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered only minor injuries. After being treated at Utah Valley Hospital, Alencastro was booked into the Utah County Jail on two charges: automobile homicide, a third degree felony, and a DUI-injury accident, a Class A misdemeanor.
