SALT LAKE CITY – Women make up 60% of all jobs lost in the United States due to COVID-19. That’s the findings of a new report from the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.

But it doesn’t look like sexism is to blame.

Researchers found COVID-19 restrictions have hit the hospitality and leisure, education, and service sectors extremely hard. These are also the industries that have more women employees.

However, men did not fare well in certain categories, either.

Nine times as many men as women lost construction jobs, while three times as many men lost jobs in manufacturing than their female counterparts.

Researchers also think it might be harder for women to find another job since school has been moved online. A significant number of women do not have another person to call to watch their kids while mom is away.
