MAGNA, Utah — Multiple police agencies have responded in Magna where they believe an individual who shot at officers overnight has barricaded themselves.

Salt Lake City Police say that one during an overnight traffic stop made by one of their officers, the individual stopped pulled a gun on the officer and began to shoot. There were no injuries reported and the officer did not return fire.

Police shut down portions of 7200 between 3200 and 2800 South West in Magna where they believe the barricaded individual they say may be armed.

Police say that the barricaded person is talking to SWAT negotiators before safely taking the suspect into custody after deploying a “diversionary device.”

“Our SWAT teams did negotiate. Eventually, we had the opportunity to take him into custody by using a diversionary device,” Det. Michael Ruff told reporters.
