FORT DUCHESNE, Utah —  A rollover crash early Sunday morning left one man dead and sent a woman to the hospital, the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office reported. The sheriff’es deputies and Bureau of Indian Affairs police officers were notified about the crash on 7000 South, south of Fort Duchesne.

Officers were notified about 4:30 a.m. and reported to the scene — several miles south of the Four Corners intersection.

Investigators report they believe the male driver, 30, failed to negotiate a curve in the road, overcorrecting the steering wheel — rolling the vehicle.

Both the man and his female passenger, 19, were ejected from the vehicle. Neither were wearing a seat belt — rather, investigators say the belts had been fastened and the two were sitting on top of them at the time of the crash.

The woman was able to get and walk for help, returning to the crash site finding the driver dead.

Investigators report they believe alcohol use and excess speed were factors in the crash.

The woman was transported to Uintah Basin Medical Center. Identifying details have not been released.
