Across Utah, 1 in 7 children suffers from hunger, but in the Granite School District, the number is more than 3 in 5 children! Hunger emerges over periods beyond the school day like the weekends, holidays, and summer.
The Granite Education Foundation established a school pantry program and has been delivering food to address hunger. However, since children were sent home, demand for food has increased over 10-times. Between March 16 – May 21, they’ve delivered over 215,000 meals. So far, they’ve been able to meet the need, but not without a cost. Their inventory has been exhausted and getting food to children outside of the school day is difficult.
The Granite Education Foundation needs your help. Due to the increased risk of contagion from potentially exposed products, they are asking for CASH donations to purchase food. Just $50 will buy 33 meals and snacks for a child. Please visit granitekids.org to donate today.
SelectHealth recognizes the fight against hunger by the Granite Education Foundation as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
