For 30 years, Primary Children’s Hospital has worked to keep kids safe in our communities. Tragedies can happen in a blink of an eye.

With summer and warmer temperatures here, it’s important to be especially careful around water. Drowning is the second leading cause of death among Utah children under the age of 14. Water accidents can also cause life-altering brain injuries. There is simply no substitute for 100% supervision. Watch your children at all times whenever they’re around water.

Swimming is a great way to be active, but there are some safety rules to follow. Never take your eyes off children in the water, learn infant and child CPR, keep a phone nearby in case of an emergency, empty all buckets and wading pools after use, wear coast-guard approved life jackets on open water, and install child safety locks on toilet lids in households with toddlers. SelectHealth recognizes the caring impact of Primary Children’s Hospital as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
