PROVO, Utah — An officer-involved Critical Incident Team from several jurisdictions has taken over an investigation in Provo late Thursday night. A woman was reportedly shot by officers at a Utah State Park in Provo.

Provo Police Chief Richard Ferguson says they received a 9-1-1 call around 7 p.m. near 4400 West Center Street.  When officers got to the scene they say they found a woman in her 20’s was waving a gun.

Cheif Ferguson said she ignored repeated verbal commands and proceeded to point the gun at police.

“When the officers arrived they found the female with a gun and she was waving it about.  They tried to give her orders to put the gun down.  She did not comply.  She pointed the gun at our officers and was shot,” according to Chief Ferguson.

Ferguson says as of late Thursday night, she was alive.  She was given medical assistance at the scene and then transported to Utah Valley Hospital.

The officers involved were shaken but were all OK.  Her identity is not known, and Chief Ferguson will not immediately release the name of the officers involved.

This is the second officer-involved shooting in Utah to happen within a week. The other was located in Ogden and resulted in the death of Ogden police officer Nathan Lyday.

This story is developing and more information will be added.
