SALT LAKE CITY — The latest numbers from Utah health officials record eight new deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the state, tying the previous one-day high for deaths set last month.
So far, the Utah Department of Health says COVID-19 caused the deaths of 139 Utah residents. Of the eight new COVID-19 deaths in Utah, six involved Salt Lake County residents. The other two lived in Weber and Washington Counties. Six of the eight involved residents of long-term care facilities. Two deaths occurred in people under the age of 60 who required hospitalization. The health department did not provide their exact ages.
Utah now reports 13,577 positive (lab-confirmed) cases of COVID-19. That represents an increase of 325 cases from the day before. Of those, 988 required hospitalization so far, and 130 involve patients who are still hospitalized.
The vast majority of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in Utah go on to recover. The Utah Department of Health estimates 7,935 Utahns have recovered from coronavirus. Patients are considered recovered if they were diagnosed more than three weeks ago and did not die.
