PARK CITY — Monday, The Park City Council unanimously agreed to cancel their Fourth of July festivities. The Council said in a statement that the festivities were canceled in light of the nationwide spike in COVID-19 cases and to help lower the health risks that come with mass gatherings.
The annual parade, fireworks show, and Park City Volleyball Tournament are all canceled, but a virtual version of the annual 5k run will take place.
“It is with great disappointment we have canceled our traditional July 4th celebrations, including the parade, the public fireworks show, City Park festivities, and the volleyball tournament,” says Mayor Andy Beerman. He says the county health department advised there was no longer a way to safely mitigate mass gatherings like this.
Main street in Park City will be car-free on Saturday, July 4 as an extended part of their car-free Sundays which are currently in place through September 6, 2020.
