SALT LAKE CITY — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced President Donald Trump has approved federal disaster assistance for Utah from the earthquake of March 18, 2020 and subsequent aftershocks.
The action means people in Davis and Salt Lake Counties can apply for federal disaster funding, which includes grants and loans.
The 5.7 magnitude earthquake, centered near Magna, caused damage to a number of buildings in the area. Hundreds of aftershocks followed in the weeks afterward, including a pair of minor shakers on Wednesday measuring less than 3.0.
In a news release, FEMA said residents and business owners can apply for temporary housing and home repair grants as well as low-cost loans for uninsured property losses from the earthquake. Those interested must register online with FEMA or call 1-800-621-FEMA(3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.
The assistance applies for damages or losses suffered between March 18 and April 17, 2020.
