Two people killed in plane crash near Cedar City

IRON COUNTY, Utah:  Two people were killed in a single-engine airplane crash approximately five miles south of the Cedar City Regional Airport on Sunday.

The Iron County Sheriff’s office reports that the airplane hit a communication tower near 6500 W and 4000 S. That tower is approximately 300 feet tall.

The victims are a 52-year-old male and a 63-year-old male. Neither of the men is from the Iron County area, officials say. The names of the victims have not yet been released.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirms the pilot was flying from Strawberry Valley Estates Airport in Alton City to the Cedar City Regional Airport. 

According to KSL.com, the airplane crashed near Hamilton Fort, just south of Cedar City.

 

 

The FAA will release the tail number of the aircraft and it, along with the National Transportation Safety Board, will investigate the crash.
