SALT LAKE CITY— The Granite School District Board of Education is scheduling a special meeting to discuss changing their elementary school schedule.
In a news release, the Board says they’ll gather Monday, August 17th, at 8 am at the Granite Education Center on 2500 S. State Street in South Salt Lake.
Granite’s current plan is for elementary students to be in class 5 days a week. The plan for secondary schools, however, is 4 days a week in class, and Friday’s online.
The Granite Education Association (GEA), which represents teachers, says many educators are afraid for their health and the health of their loved ones. The GEA is asking Granite to change the elementary schedule to 4 days in class to match the schedule for secondary schools. Granite spokesman Ben Horsely said on Friday, “We are listening and empathize with the concerns the GEA has presented, and are taking under serious consideration the request for a four-day schedule for elementary schools based on their formal request.”
The meeting is closed to the public, but they will be able to watch the meeting online at graniteschools.org.
