WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Police in West Valley say they took a group of children ranging in age from 12-15 into custody, accused of stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase Monday night.

Officers said they saw a van engaging in suspicious behavior near 4400 S and Redwood Road. They ran the license plate and found the van had been stolen.

After attempting a traffic stop, Sgt. Jacob Palmer with West Valley Police says officers spiked the van’s tires, but it did not stop so they continued the chase. Officers said the van finally came to a stop near 2600 S on I-215, where they took the children into custody.

Palmer said they are grateful the West Valley chase resulted in no injuries. He added the department is seeing more kids around the same ages getting into trouble.

“I would absolutely tell parents to keep an eye on their children,” Palmer said. “I have kids myself, and I would be pretty upset knowing they were out on a Monday night, this late, inside of a stolen vehicle, fleeing from police.”

Police released all seven juveniles to their parents. Palmer expected the children to face charges in juvenile court.
