SANTAQUIN, Utah — A new fire, named “Williams Fire,” sparked Sunday afternoon near Santaquin with officials reporting it was caused by target shooters.

Several fire engines and helicopters are working toward containment, with an estimated 400+ acres burned as of 7 p.m.

Fire authorities have not issued an official evacuation for the area and the fire isn’t “blocking any major roads,” according to Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

Cannon reports authorities went to surrounding cabins to notify them of the fire, but found several of them empty.

It’s currently unclear how much of the fire is contained.
