SALT LAKE CITY — On Sunday the Summit County Sheriff’s Office reported that search and rescue workers had found the body of 25-year-old Kyle S. Wimpenny, of Boise, Idaho, who had been reported missing by his roommate on September 17.

In a statement, Summit County officials said that Wimpenny’s body was located just before 2:30 p.m. He was airlifted from the Kings Peak Henry’s Fork drainage area to Kamas.

The Utah Office of the Medical Examiner said it appears that Kyle fell approximately 1,000 feet while attempting to summit Kings Peak.

Summit County says Wimpenny told a friend he would return on Wednesday, September 16 and that he wanted to hike Kings Peak.

Early Thursday morning, Summit County officials say they located Wimpenny’s vehicle at the Henry’s Fork trailhead. Since then, Summit County Search and Rescue has been looking for the man by foot, on horseback, and via aircraft of the Division of Public Safety and LifeFlight.
