UPDATE: Lava Ridge Fire starts in Washington County, leaving many without power

SALT LAKE CITY — Multiple agencies are on the scene of a wildfire — named Lava Ridge Fire — in Washington County, northeast of Ivins and about three miles north of St. George. 

The Lava Ridge Fire, is estimated to have burned approximately 125 acres and is roughly 20% contained. According to fire officials, the fire is moving toward Turkey Farm Road.


 The City of St. George Energy Services Department reports that Rocky Mountain Power has de-energized a power line to the Ledges area as a precautionary measure. An image on Rocky Mountain Power’s outage webpage shows that 1,135 customers are affected by this outage.



The areas of Winchester Hills, Diamond Valley and Dammeron Valley are also affected by the preventative outage.

Utah Fire Info reports no structures are threatened, and no evacuations have been called.

The cause of the Lava Ridge Fire is under investigation.
