SALT LAKE CITY — The Associated Press has called the race for Utah’s 1st Congressional District, naming Republican Blake Moore the winner at 8:47 p.m. Tuesday. Moore defeated Democrat challenger Darren Parry with a tally of 68.3% (174,744 votes) vs. 31.7% (81,142) for Parry as of Wednesday evening.

The Republican will take on Utah’s only open seat in Congress this election. It’s the first time in nearly two decades the seat has been open without an incumbent running.

It’s the only Utah race that guarantees a new Congress member after incumbent Rep. Rob Bishop announced he wouldn’t run for re-election. Instead, he ran an unsuccessful campaign as lieutenant governor alongside Thomas Wright during the GOP primary.
