WEBER, Utah — On November 5, Weber High School will move to online classes due to an outbreak of COVID-19. The high school confirmed in a press release, there are 15 or more positive cases of COVID-19 at the school.
In consultation with officials at the Weber-Morgan Health Department, Weber High officials say they are making this change to mitigate the spread. According to the Utah Department of Health’s School Manual, an outbreak is defined when:
“15 people tested positive for COVID-19 across multiple settings in the school (more than one classroom) and are connected by the same time period…” For example, “15 students and teachers in different classes in the school test positive within 2 weeks of each other.”
Those individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 must self-isolate for 14 days and quarantine. WHS students can return to their classes starting November 19 according to the press release.
How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19Coronavirus
COVID-19 coronavirus is transmitted from person to person. It is a virus that is similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:
Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
Don’t touch your face.
Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet)
If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities.)
