SALT LAKE CITY — A 23-year-old Salt Lake City man has pleaded guilty in a case involving support of the Islamic State, or ISIS, this week in District Court.
Murat Suljovic pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, according to the Justice Department.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah said that Suljovic admitted to that in January 2019, while living in the Salt Lake area, and he “provided advice about potential targets for a terrorist attack and advice about how to plan an attack,” as well as providing a “bomb-making tutorial video” to two people he believed were in ISIS.
“By providing the bomb-making tutorial video to Person A, Suljovic admitted he knowingly attempted to provide material support to ISIS, knowing that ISIS has engaged and does engage in terrorism,” the attorney’s office said.
As part of his plea deal, authorities said Suljovic surrendered “a variety of computer and electronic equipment used to facilitate his criminal conduct or acquired from his conduct.”
The Justice Department said at maximum, Suljovic could face 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
Suljovic will face sentencing at a later date, not yet scheduled. He remains in custody.
