DRAPER, Utah — Corner Canyon High School announced it would be moving all classes online for the next two weeks, adding it to the string of high schools to make that decision in the last week. The decision comes after a rise in COVID cases among students, surpassing the recommended 15-case threshold.

Virtual classes will begin Monday with students slated to return Monday, Nov. 30 — the same day Alta and Jordan high schools, as well as Indian Hills Middle School, will resume in-person classes.

“Canyons District continues to ask the community to follow safety precautions while at and away from school,” the school said in a statement. “Please wear face coverings, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, and observe physical distancing guidelines in public.”

Additionally, all extracurricular activities will be canceled during the two-week period, according to the school. This does not include the football teams playing in the Utah High School Activities Association-sponsored championship playoffs.

Corner Canyon student-athletes are scheduled to play in the Nov. 20 championship game. However, players must test negative for the coronavirus within 72 hours of the game.

This is in accordance with Gov. Gary Herbert’s recent state of emergency declaration

Students can still grab to-go lunches from any of the Canyons School District Nutrition Services sites:

  • Butler Middle,  7530 S. 2700 East, Cottonwood Heights
  • Midvale Middle, 7852 Pioneer Rd., Midvale
  • Draper Park Middle, 13133 S. 1300 East

While students continue with classes over the next two weeks, Corner Canyon High School will be “thoroughly cleaned and sanitized,” according to the school.
