SALT LAKE CITY — The Festival of Trees will kick off its 50th anniversary Friday night, operating the annual fundraiser virtually for the first time. Despite the lack of an in-person crowd, event organizers say donations are holding steady.
The 90-minute broadcast will begin at 7 p.m. featuring concert singers Alex Boyé and Brian Stokes Mitchell. While they sing, people can participate in the silent auction and other activities at MakeGoodGrow.org.
“It’s just so good to be involved in something […] that serves the community and doing so much good for the children and patients of Primary Children’s,” said Mark Powell, senior vice president of events of Vivint Arena.
All proceeds will go toward Primary Children’s Hospital, collected from donations as people bid on Christmas wreaths, trees and fudge.
“Donations from the Festival of Trees go toward taking care of kids at Primary Children’s Hospital,” said Katie Welkie, CEO of the hospital. “That’s been such a wonderful tradition we’ve wanted to make sure lives and stays alive this year.”
