Gov Herbert declares December 19 Wreaths Across America Day in Utah
SALT LAKE CITY — Saturday morning the national wreath day ceremony kicked off at Arlington National Cemetery honoring every veteran including those in Utah. On the same day, Governor Gary Herbert declared December 19, 2020, as Wreaths Across America Day in Utah.
This new day is named after the non-profit organization called Wreaths Across America.
The non-profit organization began in 2006 as an extension of the Arlington National Cemetery Wreath Project which originated in 1992 when the headstones of our nation’s fallen heroes were adorned with wreaths donated by the Worcester Wreath Company.
In commemoration of the newly announced Wreaths Across America Day in Utah, The Wasatch Range Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution arranged for a ceremony that was conducted in Highland City Cemetery. Students from American Heritage School are laying wreaths on the grave of every veteran laid to rest there.
During the ceremony when the wreaths are placed, the veteran’s names will be said aloud and each will be thanked for their service to our country.
