WEST JORDAN, Utah — With the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s been a challenge for kids to visit with Santa ahead of Christmas Day — Macey’s wanted to change that.

During its Christmas Eve hours, Macey’s will get the help from the man in red with all its curbside pickups. Utah families can schedule a time at either the West Jordan or Murray Macey’s locations to see Santa deliver groceries from his sleigh (or, you know, Macey’s stores).

“We all know that online grocery has become very popular over the last 9 months and we wanted to utilize the change and deliver groceries curbside differently this holiday season with the help of our good friend Santa Claus,” said Thomas Horne, Associated Food Stores e-commerce manager, in a statement. “Now through Christmas Eve Santa is teaming up with our personal shoppers and help to deliver your groceries and a treat right to your car.”

Shoppers can take selfies with Santa from outside the car, maintaining distance to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. Santa will be at the Murray location from 9 a.m. to noon, before heading to the West Jordan location from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Guests can order groceries with no minimum fee — a drop from its usual $30 minimum for pickup orders.

“We could not be more excited to be able to offer this to the local communities around our stores,” Horne said. “The feedback we have gotten from shoppers so far has been nothing but positive. For many shoppers this is the only way that their families will be able to have a chance to tell Santa what is on their wish list this year.”
