SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah’s star freshman running back Ty Jordan has passed away. His death has been confirmed following a post on Utah Football’s Twitter page.
Denton County Police Department officials said Jordan was rushed to the hospital after he was accidentally shot by a discharged firearm Friday evening and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Jordan was 19 years old and had an exceptional season with the U of U having rushed 597 yards with 6 touchdowns and 83 carries averaging 7.2 yards per carry.
Although he had a smaller frame, his dynamic movement on the field and bursts of speed proved many times to be too much for opposing teams to handle.
Jordan had a bright future and was named as the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.
Earlier this year, Jordan lost his 43-year-old mother to lung and bone cancer.
Jordan is survived by his brother, Kobe.
