WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — One person was killed and several others were injured after a crash on the highway adjacent to Deer Creek Reservoir in Wasatch County on Friday afternoon.

Lt. Nick Street with the Utah Department of Public Safety said a northbound Honda Civic drifted off the road to the right, overcorrected, crossed into oncoming traffic and sideswiping a Subaru Cross Trek which was traveling south.

Street said that the impact “spun the Civic” and caused it to be hit by another southbound vehicle, a Toyota minivan.

It was the 17-year-old driver of the Honda Civic that died on the scene.

Those in the Subaru were uninjured, and those in the Toyota minivan received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals.

The Utah Department of Transportation first alerted drivers that US-189 was closed in both directions south of Charleston Rd. due to the crash.

As more information became available, the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) reported it was a fatal crash.

US-189 was closed in both directions for about 3 hours.
