SALT LAKE CITY — Monday on KSL Newsradio’s Vaccine Watch, hosts Dave and Dujanovic looked into complaints about long lines at a vaccine clinic and confusion about the vaccine sign up process in Utah County.

Signing up for a vaccine in Utah County

During the program, Michael Andrews called to say that he goes online frequently, hoping to sign up for an appointment, and when he does there’s nothing available.  Andrews told the hosts that he’s frustrated and feels shut out of available appointments.

The Utah County Health Department said instead of staying online for hours, sign up for text alerts by texting UCHEALTH to 888777. The county will alert you when more vaccines become available through their online vaccine scheduler.

Avoiding long lines at the Spanish Fork Vaccine Clinic

An 85-year old listener emailed the show to say that she arrived at the Spanish Fork vaccine clinic in Utah County last Friday and saw a line of people that wrapped around the outside of the building. And, “the building was full of people,” she wrote.

Other listeners worried that standing indoors in a long line could put vaccine recipients at risk of contracting COVID-19.

The Utah County Health Department asks residents who have an appointment to remain in their cars until a few minutes before their appointment.  Utah County health department spokesperson Aislynn Tolman-Hill assured listeners who have a scheduled appointment that they will be vaccinated at their scheduled time.

Who’s currently eligible to be vaccinated in Utah

  • Healthcare workers
  • Teachers
  • First responders
  • Residents 70 years of age and older

How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus

COVID-19 coronavirus spreads person to person, similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:

  • Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
  • Don’t touch your face.
  • Wear a mask to protect yourself and others per CDC recommendations.
  • Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet).
  • If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities).
  • Get a flu shot.
