SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health reported an increase of 1,216 COVID-19 cases Friday, bringing the state’s total to 352,489 since the pandemic began last March. This comes as the state reports 382,881 total vaccines have been administered, surpassing the total number of infections.

As more Utahns gain access to the vaccine, 89,948 people have been administered both doses of the vaccine — about 25% of all who have received a dose.

The health department reports 17 more people have died from the coronavirus, with 12 of the deaths occurring before Jan. 15.

The numbers come as numbers continue to drop throughout the state, with the 7-day average for positive tests coming in at 16.3%. That’s about 1,222 positive tests per day.

There are 349 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Utah, bringing the pandemic’s total to 13,755. As the vaccine is administered throughout the state, infections among healthcare workers have dropped.
