Utah surpasses 400,000 administered doses of COVID-19 vaccine

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health reported on Saturday that the state has now administered 404,085 doses of the vaccine for COVID-19.

That represents an increase of 21,204 doses administered since the Department of Health’s official report on Friday.

And there are other promising trends, including the rolling 7-day average for the percent of positive laboratory tests. Today that number is 16.2%. On January 1st, 2021, the Utah Department of Health reported the highest daily 7-day average (33.24%) since the state began tracking this information.

Another positive note from the information provided by the Utah Department of Health on Saturday is the number of Utahns who are currently hospitalized with COVID-19. Today that number is 335. In the past months, health officials have warned about the need to implement crisis care standards in Utah if the number of hospitalizations kept climbing.

On January 15th, the state of Utah recorded 584 COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide. In total, 13,828 Utahns have been hospitalized due to COVID-19 since the beginning of the global pandemic in March 2020.

Other trends

Currently, Utah health officials have tested more than 2 million people for the virus. On Saturday that number was 2,070,190, representing an increase of 8,264 people tested since the last report on Friday.

And in total, there have been 1,733 Utahns who have died from COVID-19, including five more deaths which were reported since Friday. These Utahns lived in Salt Lake, Tooele, Millard, Weber, and Uintah counties.

How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus

COVID-19 coronavirus spreads person to person, similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:

Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
Don’t touch your face.
Wear a mask to protect yourself and others per CDC recommendations.
Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet).
If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities).
Get a flu shot.
