OSALT LAKE CITY — When the Utah Jazz start the second half of their season against the Houston Rockets at Vivint Arena Friday night, they will do so in style, debuting new uniforms that mark the return of green to the team’s color scheme.

And more fans will be on hand to see it, as Vivint opens up to a slightly larger crowd.

Jazz debut new uniforms with bragging rights

The team unveiled its new Nike NBA Earned Edition uniforms Wednesday, ahead of the Rockets game on Friday, March 12. They feature an enlarged “Jazz note” in gold and white on top of a Kelly green background, harking back to the team’s original classic road uniform from its Salt Lake City debut in 1979.

Only teams that advanced to the NBA playoffs last year qualified to receive the Earned Edition uniforms. The green version brings the number of uniform options for the Jazz this season to five.

According to the NBA website, fans can purchase the Earned Edition uniforms starting March 18.

More fans at Vivint Arena

When the Utah Jazz tipoff Friday night, they’ll do it in front of more fans. Jazz Vice President of Communications Frank Zang said the Rockets game will allow 5,600 fans, with no change in health or safety protocols. That means the same measures protecting fans from COVID-19 thus far this season remain in place.

“So, there will be health screenings, masks [and] social distancing again throughout the arena tonight,” Zang told KSL NewsRadio.

Fans will be spaced throughout the lower bowl, upper bowl and suite level to allow for social distancing.
