Strong winds along the Wasatch Front expected over the weekend

SALT LAKE CITY- Strong winds are expected along the Wasatch front this weekend so, buckle up. The National Weather Service (NWS) is issuing a wind advisory along the Wasatch Front, effective Friday at 5 p.m. through Saturday morning. 

Parleys, Farmington and Weber canyons are going to be most impacted, with wind gusts between 45-55 miles per hour, according to NWS. From the Salt Lake Valley to Weber County, wind speeds are expected to reach around 35-50 miles per hour.


 

NWS states the strong winds will affect the roads on I-15 in Davis, Weber and northern Salt Lake counties., all along the Wasatch Front. It’s expected Highway 89 and Legacy Parkway will be impacted as well. 

Officials also warn of possible power outages due to the high-winds and advise residents to “secure loose items, including decorations, trampolines, and other outdoor objects.” 

Last year, a similar wind storm hit Salt Lake City and other areas of Utah causing severe damage and power outages.
