Tracy Aviary’s Red tailed black cockatoo Matilda has been found

SALT LAKE CITY — Officials say that Matilda, the red tailed black cockatoo that went missing, has been found.

Reportedly, a tip led those who were searching for her to her location several blocks away from the aviary.

Earlier today:

The bird show team at Tracy Aviary spent the afternoon looking for their red tailed black cockatoo named Matilda but could not find her.

An email sent to KSL Newsradio this morning says she was out flying with her keeper when she was caught in a wind gust and blown off the Tracy Aviary property.

However, this isn’t the first time Matilda has gone missing. She went missing in 2020 when she was chased away by a bald eagle.

Matilda was later found after someone reported hearing her vocalizing in Liberty Park.   According to the Salt Lake Tribune, she went missing in 2013 as well.

She was last seen flying west from Liberty Park.  They she is a strong flyer and she could be several miles away by now.

Tracy Aviary is asking anyone to please contact (801) 381-6349 if you see the red tailed black cockatoo.
