Battalion chief Dan Walker, with the Salt Lake City Fire Department, says flames were already coming through the roof when crews first arrived.

“There was also a partial collapse,” he explains. “Due to the fact that this building has been boarded-up and the dangers around the building, they took a defensive stance. They stayed back and put  up the ladders.”

Walker estimates that 25 to 30 firefighters responded to the scene and he says there are no injuries to report.

“We do not know the cause of this fire, as of yet,” he explains. “Investigators are here and we’ll get started as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Officials say the location was most recently a Chinese restaurant and few other restaurants prior to that. All utilities inside he building were already turned off prior to the fire.
