SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A statewide food drive starts this week and the Utah Food Bank is looking for your help.

First ever statewide Feed Utah food drive

The first annual Feed Utah event will provide food to the thousands of Utahns currently facing hunger.

Governor Spencer Cox says that group may actually be larger than you think.

“I know that it will be shocking for many to hear that over 500,000 people in Utah and 1 in 5 children are at risk of missing a meal today,” he explained.

Governor Cox was at the Utah Food Bank on Tuesday as he officially declared March 20th to be Feed Utah Day.

The Feed Utah event is asking members of the public to place a bag of non-perishable food outside their front door by 9 AM on Saturday, March 20. That bag of food will later be picked up by volunteers and distributed to Utah Food Bank and their partner agencies across the state.

“The best of Utah”

Governor Cox says this event highlights the very best that Utah has to offer.

“It’s also the best of Utah when the non-profit sector can come together with the faith-based sector,” he said.

The effort he’s alluding to is a partnership between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Associated Food Stores, JustServe, the NAACP, Bonneville Salt Lake, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah Alliance and the Utah National Guard.
