Put down your virtual reality goggles. Forget about finding a Caribbean background for Zoom. You can cruise to the Bahamas and Mexico by June. If you’re fully vaccinated.

The Royal Caribbean International cruise line has a new homeport in Nassau, The Bahamas. And that’s where their cruises will set sail.

How to safely cruise to the Bahamas

Fully vaccinated crews will be on board.  And fully vaccinated adults can join them. As can people under the age of 18 who test negative for the virus.

“We are excited to get back to delivering memorable vacations in the Caribbean, gradually and safely,” said Michael Bayley, president of Royal Caribbean International.

In early 2020, much of the world first saw the nature of the COVID-19 virus on cruise ships. Because of their close quarters, the virus quickly spread. And hundreds of people became infected and were quarantined on some cruise ships.

“With the number of vaccinations and their impact growing rapidly, we believe starting with cruises for vaccinated adult guests and crew is the right choice,” said Bayley.

Bayley said that the vaccination requirement will “evolve over time.”

The company said it will release details about additional health and safety measures at a later date. They have been outlined by the company’s health officials as well as local government authorities.

Those who wish to cruise this summer must also meet the travel requirements of The Bahamas. Learn more about those travel requirements here.
